Para los miembros del Local 49 y los contratistas signatarios, es un paso significativo para proteger las horas de trabajo, fortalecer la cuota de mercado y crear un campo de juego m\u00e1s equitativo en todo Nuevo M\u00e9xico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLa forma en que este tipo de ley nos ayuda a aumentar nuestra membres\u00eda es que incrementa nuestro volumen de participaci\u00f3n en el mercado al tener salarios equitativos en los talleres de fabricaci\u00f3n\u201d, dijo Isaiah Zemke, Gerente de Negocios y Secretario-Tesorero Local 49. \u201cTodos tienen que pagar el mismo salario vigente estatal para estos proyectos de obras p\u00fablicas\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Durante a\u00f1os, la fabricaci\u00f3n externa ha sido un punto d\u00e9bil en la fiscalizaci\u00f3n de obras p\u00fablicas en muchos lugares. Incluso cuando un proyecto en s\u00ed estaba cubierto por el salario predominante o un acuerdo de trabajo del proyecto, los contratistas a\u00fan pod\u00edan impulsar el trabajo de fabricaci\u00f3n a talleres externos que pagaban salarios m\u00e1s bajos. Eso dificult\u00f3 la competencia para los contratistas sindicalizados y les cost\u00f3 a los trabajadores sindicalizados de l\u00e1minas met\u00e1licas valiosas horas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El Local 49 vio ese desaf\u00edo claramente y tom\u00f3 la decisi\u00f3n de actuar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De cara a la sesi\u00f3n legislativa de 2025, el sindicato sent\u00f3 las bases con anticipaci\u00f3n. La dirigencia desarroll\u00f3 un cuestionario de respaldo bipartidista, abri\u00f3 conversaciones con funcionarios electos de todos los partidos y acerc\u00f3 a los legisladores al mundo del sindicato para que comprendieran mejor el oficio, el trabajo y lo que estaba en juego.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEmpezamos temprano con el desarrollo de un proceso de cuestionario de respaldo que fuera bipartidista\u201d, explic\u00f3 Zemke. \u201cSe envi\u00f3 a todos los representantes estatales, a todos los senadores estatales \u2014 republicanos, independientes, dem\u00f3cratas, de cualquier afiliaci\u00f3n partidista. Los trajimos a la casa sindical, a los trabajadores de la hojalata; los educamos sobre fabricaci\u00f3n, los educamos sobre lo que los trabajadores de la hojalata hacen en la industria\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ese esfuerzo ayud\u00f3 a Local 49 a generar apoyo, identificar patrocinadores y avanzar el proyecto de ley con el respaldo de l\u00edderes en la C\u00e1mara de Representantes, el Senado y la oficina del gobernador. Pero el apoyo por s\u00ed solo no lo llev\u00f3 hasta el final. Local 49 se mantuvo involucrado durante todo el proceso, actuando como defensores, testigos expertos y una voz unida para la industria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDesde all\u00ed, nos calzamos las botas y nos dedicamos a la labor no solo de ser testigos expertos, sino tambi\u00e9n de promover el proyecto de ley en la legislatura estatal aqu\u00ed en 2025\u201d, dijo Zemke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aunque esta victoria podr\u00eda no haber acaparado los titulares nacionales, su impacto se sentir\u00e1 donde m\u00e1s importa: en las obras, en los talleres de fabricaci\u00f3n y en casa, alrededor de las mesas de la cocina. Significa m\u00e1s oportunidades para los miembros del Local 49. M\u00e1s competencia justa para los contratistas signatarios. M\u00e1s horas trabajadas bajo los est\u00e1ndares adecuados.
