SMART Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 49 is launching its Recruit a Brother/Sister Program to help build the skilled workforce needed for the work ahead.
You know the trade, and you know the good hands. Think about the journeymen you have worked beside, trained with, or know by reputation. If you know a New Mexico licensed journeyman who works hard, knows the craft, and would make Local 49 stronger, send them our way.
Program Dates: Now through December 31, 2026
You can earn up to $1,000 for referring a qualifying New Mexico licensed journeyman who goes to work with a Local 49 signatory contractor.
The reward includes $500 from Local 49 plus an IA match. Payment is made after your referral works 90 days, completes 200 hours with a signatory contractor, and has been verified.
The person you refer must hold a valid New Mexico journeyman license, verified by a Local 49 organizer, representative, or business manager.
There is no limit to the number of qualifying New Mexico licensed journeymen you can refer. The overall Local 49 referral drive is limited to 100 total referrals, so submit your qualified referrals early.
A former coworker. A friend. A family member. Someone whose work you know and trust. If they are a good hand, this is your opportunity to bring them to Local 49.
To participate, you must be an open rank and file Local 49 member in good standing.
IA staff, Local 49 staff, and officers are not eligible to participate. Self-referrals are not allowed.
Big work is ahead, and Local 49 needs skilled people ready to get it done. When you bring an experienced journeyman into the union, you help strengthen our workforce, support our signatory contractors, and put Local 49 in a stronger position to take on more work.
